Tucked on the slopes of Mount Elgon near the Kenyan border, Sipi Falls is not just one waterfall — but a series of three breathtaking cascades surrounded by lush hills, caves, and coffee plantations. Sipi Falls: The Land of Mist & Thunder is a short escape into Uganda’s most scenic highland paradise. Perfect for hikers, photographers, and anyone seeking fresh mountain air, roaring waterfalls, and authentic village life.
Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrival & The First Roar
Depart Kampala early and drive east through Jinja and Mbale, climbing into the cool green hills of Kapchorwa. Arrive at Sipi in the afternoon. Check into a cozy lodge overlooking the falls. Take a short nature walk to the first and tallest waterfall (85m). Feel the spray on your face and watch rainbows form in the mist. Evening bonfire and local storytelling.
Day 2: The Full Falls Expedition
After breakfast, embark on the full Sipi Falls hike — a 4–5 hour guided trek visiting all three waterfalls. You’ll:
- Climb through bamboo and fig forests
- Enter caves hidden behind the second waterfall
- Cross swinging bridges with valley views
- Swim in natural pools (optional)
- Meet local families and see traditional simsim (sesame) grinding
Afternoon: Visit a Café Elgon coffee farm to learn wet processing, roasting, and taste freshly brewed Arabica coffee.
Day 3: Sunrise Views & Departure
Early morning walk to a viewpoint for sunrise over the Karamoja plains and Mount Elgon’s peaks (if clear). Optional: abseiling down the 100m Chebonet Falls cliff (advanced booking required). Then drive back to Kampala with a stop for local crafts in Mbale town.

Best Time to Go
